How do I access services?

Student Expectations:

Tutoring Polices
  • All students will be scheduled for  2 hours a week; either 1 hour a week for up to 2 courses or 2 hours for one course to start the semester.
  • Tutors and students can request additional hours through the Tutorial Center for more tutoring options.  Students will be limited to no more than 3 hours of tutoring per week through the Center and additional time can be accessed via Tutor.com.
  • Outside of your session, please communicate with the Tutorial Services Staff and not directly with your Tutor. This includes any personal email, text, or phone calls directly to your tutor. If you would like to share something with your tutor, please feel free to send it to Tutorial@berkshirecc.edu and we will forward it to your tutor!
Canceling Your Session
  • If you need to cancel your appointment, please do so at least 2 hours before your appointment.
  • If you cancel within two hours of your appointment or do not show up, an email will be sent as a reminder for your next appointment. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend the next appointment.
  • If a second appointment is canceled with less than 2 hours’ notice or missed with no notification, all future appointments will be canceled. Tutorial services will follow up with you to address and resolve any attendance concerns before scheduling any additional sessions.  A third missed or no-show will complete the center sessions for the semester.  Students may reapply on a probationary status the next semester.
  • Consistently missed or canceled sessions will be addressed with the student to find a time that will work with them.
  • Emails to tutors about canceling a session are not considered a notification to the Center. Students must notify the Center by phone, text, or email any time day or night.
Be Prepared
  • Students should be prepared for the session with tests/quizzes that were returned, questions about assignments, or questions about content or skill sets.
  • Students should not expect the tutor to do their homework with them or correct an assignment before turning it in.
  • Students should plan to bring textbooks, materials, and a laptop to their sessions to access their course information.
  • Tutors can help students review content covered in class, tests or quizzes that are graded, and help with resources and skill sets.

Tutors

Peer Tutors are current BCC students whose professors recommend them to tutor in a particular course or subject. They bring a valuable connection to the classroom and faculty to their work. Peer tutors must have received a B or better in the course they will be tutoring in.

Community Tutors are local residents from a variety of backgrounds and expertise. Some have prior classroom experience, and all can offer a practical application of many fields of study.  Community Tutors must have an earned Associates degree or at least 60 credits toward a Bachelor's degree to be eligible to tutor in content areas.
